Awaken the eternal
The snowdrops are covering the hedgerows in our lanes at the moment. They are a mass of white against the drab greens and browns of a winter-worn world. Some days I pass the snowdrops without seeing them and on other days I stop in wonder at their abundance.
When I heard this quote by John O’Donoghue, it reminded me of the snowdrops:
“The sacred duty of being an individual is to gradually learn how to live so as to awaken the eternal within you.”
The snowdrops are the essence of the eternal. Every year they burst through, heralding the end of winter’s grip. They are a reminder of the mystery, wonder and constant resurgence of life in all its guises.
The same energy that surges through them, that beckons them to break their winter slumber, is the same energy that animates us. When we touch base with that energy, when we align with it then we start to awaken to the eternal within.
When we awaken to the eternal within then we naturally fall into a space of awe, wonder and gratitude.
Many of us yearn to touch this space and we try hard to find peace of mind. What we don’t realise is that peace lies within us, all the time. We don’t need to try to find our soul or spiritual core, it is ever present.
Over the past few weeks the snowdrops have reminded me of this. Some days I see them and some days I don’t – yet they are always there.
Then the snowdrops will be replaced by primroses and these flowers will do the reminding.They will call gently to our souls, rousing us to who we truly are. Then the primroses will be replaced by the bluebells, the ferns and stitchwort. Each plant is a gentle inner stirring, awakening us to the eternal within.
Let nature help to awaken the eternal within you.
